At number one this month we have a ‘Oktoberfest’, a collaboration between Berliner Nico Stojan and Russian Burning Man regular Timujin. Nico explains “this EP is made up of older tracks that Timur and myself made together two years ago while I was in London. We invited two musician friends and spent some days together in different studios.” The EP is out now on Crosstown Rebels.
At number two is the enchanting new single by Jonas Rathman on his own ELEMENTS label. Starting out as a bi-monthly mix series – curated mostly by Jonas himself, but sometimes by guest DJs (e.g. most recently Piemont, Tim Green and Sobek) – the ELEMENTS brand would eventually grow into an event series and, most recently, a label. ‘Syren’ is the 11th release so far and marks Jonas’ first release on the imprint in over a year.
Number three this month goes to Kususa’s driving remix of David Mayer & Floyd Lavine’s ‘Sondela’, which originally came out last May on Stereo MC’s Connected Frontline. The new remix EP contains versions by Jimpster, Tunnelvisions and Auntie Flo, but it was South African duo Kususa’s version which really stood out for us.
